Today’s lecture is about Workplace Safety, to make sure that the safety of workers are ensured.. or is it? Haha.. What we learnt is that there is an underlying reason behind it – Its to ensure that workers are productive thus workplace safety have to be practiced….

Anyway, the lecturer was asking the class related to the lecture: What do you think is the easiest job to do in Singapore?

Her answer was: Fireman!

WTH!?!?! I was like stabbed in the heart when I heard that ah!! I hate it when public always assume the things from the point of view they are looking at it – the surface. Yes Fireman fights fire and Singapore has very low fire occurrence, thus the assumption that we Fireman are having somewhat a relaxing and peaceful life in the Fire Station…. Really damned pissed but I didn’t show it as I respected her and still do anyway. :D I do not blame her for it as many have said “Wah fireman easy life….” I for one have said that before i join SCDF. That is why I am quite cool about it. Going all hysterical will not resolve the problem.

The point to be driven here thus is that, people’s mindset about work in SCDF is very easy has to change. The only reason there is very few such occurrence is because people like us do oodles of fire safety regulation checks every month on premises – preventions is always better isn’t it? That is a whole lot of paper work if you do not know. So few fires means we are actually doing work to prevent it from happening not that we are doing nothing and waiting for fire calls.

People please change that mindset.

Besides, we are professionals who deal not only in fighting fires. We also deal in Suicide cases, trapped cases, road traffic accidents, freak accidents, drowning cases, anything to do with rescue, etc.. Simply put it we save lives and properties for a safe and secure Singapore – not just fight fire.

People please change that mindset.

Moreover, we also have drills and contingency plans that need to be prepared. We need to conduct fire fighting exercises and chemical agent drills everyday to prepare us for a likely scenario. We need to conduct lessons and organize events on the education of public fire safety awareness. And these are only the basic things that fire fighters do.

For myself I have other things added on to my basic roles and functions which includes administrative work and also going for a lot of meetings that sometimes in 2weeks I will work throughout even on weekends.

People please change your mindset.

And ohh.. we no longer save cats on trees for your information. That was like 20 years ago…

People please change that mindset.

Finally accounting is completed and now I can advance to the other projects/assignments left – 2 1/2 more to go….

Accounting is actually to a certain extent enjoyable to do.. Lolz.. The numbers and balancing them that is the most fun part but I do not like to face it in Examinations though as I believe that I will not be able to complete the paper.. Even now I take more than 2 hours to complete a single given question of ledgers and Income Statement and Balance sheet… Need more practice but not until I lose my hair though.. :D

After all the projects and all the assignments are done I cannot wait for 13th October!! We need a break from all these projects and assignments. It is the study break (aka Time to Prepare for Semester Examinations)!!

Well today is also the mark of the 1st day of Ramadhan (the Fasting month). To all my Muslim Friends, wish you well in carrying out your Fast and Prayers for the month!! May you reap the rewards of Ramadhan. :D

Now I am no longer mistaken by Race. Nationality is the current concern.

Last Monday, I was asked whether I am from Singapore…. Last Friday, I have been asked by a Lecturer in School whether I am a foreigner and whether I am Indonesian… Yesterday, I was again asked by another lecturer whether I am a foreign student and this time she thought I was Filipino as I look like one…

So now it is left with only Tuesday. I don’t think he cares much about the nationality as he only care about Balancing the Accounts until he loses most of his hair.. Lolz.. I’ll bet he will ask me one of these days though.

Why Wednesdays and weekends not included? - I have no classes on those days larh…. :D

So almost all the other days I am carrying different Nationalities and I am a Singaporean (Indian!! Not Malay or Chinese.. Lol..) for the 3 other days.

This is weird to the point that I decided to take a look at myself in the mirror at every other angle when I got home. Found that I am what they call “unique” (just like dear Mashpotato).. :P

Feeling a bit emo and also quite busy with all the projects with the tight datelines. 4 more to go until the end of the month!!

Distraction

I’ll be your distraction
I’ll be your distraction

There’s a field nearby
With words written in stone
My love will not die
Please let it be known
This place is dead
It echoes through town
There isn’t one voice
I haven’t heard a sound
The planes flew in
Their bombs did too
The city fell flat
The fires, they grew
When the smoke comes in
It’ll color this town
But I’ll still have you
So I’ll say it aloud

I’ll be your distraction
I’ll be your distraction

The friendship we made
Is a waste of our time
There’s no one left here
To show future that’s kind
It’s a world of hate
Gone incredibly wrong
We cared too late
We just followed along
And the boys went down
With their gun in their hand
Their weapon of choice
Their knees in the sand
If that field nearby
Was still there to be used
Would you ever have known?
Those words were for you

I’ll be your distraction
I’ll be your distraction
I’ll be your distraction
I’ll be your distraction

I’ll be your distraction
I’ll be your distraction

I’ll be, I’ll be yours
I’ll be, I’ll be yours
I’ll be, I’ll be yours
I’ll be, I’ll be yours
-- End--

Just got back from buying a present for a friend of mine and at the same time meeting up with my buddies. I bought this book known as “The Alphabet of Manliness”by Maddox. What I can say is that guys should read it. It is worth it for the humour and tips. He is such an ass. Lolz

---------------------------------------

So anyway, got home and my mum said she has good news for me!! She was such in high spirits as if she struck lottery (she never gamble in her life, keyword is IF). My instantaneous response was “Am I getting a raise in allowance? Going to get $400 per month at least? From being euphoric, she grimaced at my reply.. Lolz!

I think again for a moment, if that is not the good news then it has to do with something that she has been yearning for – a baby!! I thought I was going to have one more annoying (Don’t ask why. I love my siblings. lolz) younger brother or sister. But then I think again, my mum expecting is not very possible because of her age. It then strikes me that I am going to be an Uncle instead!!

The short moment of grimace is gone when I, sharing her joy, told her that she is going to be a Grandmother and me an Uncle. Hmm, is it a boy or girl?

Celebration of life to come..

A new addition to the Zulkiffri’s Family!!

Increase in status to Uncle; High responsibility but no increase in pay. No pay to begin with anyway..
But hey, mum promised to increase allowance soon after we finished our conversation. Haha..

Alright the test periods end today! Between MCQs and short answered i prefer doing short answered. Economics MCQs are so fiddly that 2 or more options are pertinent. Damn convolutedly structured. The chances of you canceling out the unlikely answer are very minimal as somehow everything seems like the correct answer. No longer there is a 50-50 chance there.

Concentrate on assignments now.

-----------------------------------

Took a cab today to school (low in capital but had to), woke up late as I stayed up all night mugging. So anyway the driver was gleefully having a conversation with me in Mandarin asking for my preferred route and I told him BKE bla… bla.. And it goes on with what am i studying and how was it.. bla.. bla.. (I can understand a little only btw.. )

He was getting inquisitive as to why it was that when he asked me something in Mandarin I replied in English. So he asked, You are not Chinese? Are you Malay? And my reply was – I’m Indian. He was appalled(just like everyone who knows me). He kept glancing over and over as if he couldn’t believe what he saw in the rear view mirror. Lol.. A very similar situation to a friend of mine whom replied to her cab driver that she is Dutch..

Yes Im a mixed breed so to speak. Russell Peters is right about something he had coined during one of his stand ups - Eveyone Will Be Beige!! The signs of not able to discern one from another is at present.. Haha.. This is not the first time i was asked and i know it won't be the last of it.

----------------------------------
Damn why is MSN down? Is it just me?

Well taking a break right now from all the mugging for the tests. Falling sick at the wrong time is really bad. But i will not fall, instead, to continue on with the journey i have already embarked in. Iam already in the last chapter (chapter of the book im studying for the test ah, not trying to be a Literature student here) Heh.. - Will not succumb to it.

-----------------------------------
Promised someone to blog about it:

Received a call yesterday from my successor. After 6mths he have the guts to call me and say i did not rectify some problems. WTH? I have already handed over and might overlooked certain things/matters (already had 1001 things last time). Im not perfect and after 6mth he is telling me that, that pissed me off..

Even i had to rectify the problems left before me, on my own accord. Learned things on my own. I do not play the blame game. Laziness and pointing fingers( though it was indirect) won't lead you anywhere; and so i have heard many stories of this successor of mine. Be nice and rational to the people and they will do your bidding. And threats are not the solution.

I think it just hurt his ego that he did not accomplish above the standard i have achieved*. Well too bad he is not me.

*Not possible with the help of the Family. :D

Some have been asking me how come i have stopped blogging when it has only been a day or 3 days since i last blogged and received that comment. Lol! Missed it that much?

The reason being, I'll be taking a break and will be back at blogging once im done with my tests! Urgh its been almost 3 yrs arh since my last test. My mind has gone rusty. In need to sand off the rust..

Guys and ladies, wish me best of luck ya! I hope to get High Ds and Ds for all my subjects. Achievable? I really want so. Any Tutors(for free) for accounting?

My condolences to the family of Steve Irwin our famous croc hunter who lights up the TV with his funny and daring approach with animals. A hero to the natural world and nature have embraced him, forever. Hope to see his last documentary in- the- making, - Ocean's Deadliest - be carried on and screened on tele. I think that is what he wants - seeing others carrying on where he left off to educate the world.

Till then - 11/9 (last day of test)

It has been more than 5 months since i ORD-ed on March 27 2006. Others who served their National Service would say that it is very unusual for an NSF to miss what they did in the National Service. Some might even say that you are crazy to be missing it. I call it being passionate. Lol.

National Service to me is not a waste of two and half years of your time. To me it is how you make full use of it. Like any other NSFs I think of it at first as "What a sore it is to serve the NS." But then i decided that instead of complaining i might as well take it as a form of challenge. A learning phase in life. Everything in life is a learning process. I took it as if I am attending another form of schooling life, less the studying before advancing further.

Looking back, I now miss every single day I served during my NS. The experience is once in a lifetime (unless I decided to sign on.. Hmm.. still thinking about it). I get to see and deal with incidents ranging from the norm to the bizarre, go through rigorous training that I thought that I couldn’t do (if you think it is nothing like the army - ask some Navy dudes who went through some of our training. Some actually cried!!) and most of all working with a group of people I call family in a place I call my second home as that is where I spent my days and nights most of the time.

And now I am a volunteer in the Civil Defence. WTF I join for you might ask? - Well I would say that if you have a passion for something you will go all out doing it. Why not just sign on? - I have an ambition, a dream to be someone else that I very much would like to achieve even before I fell for the SCDF.

So guys who have yet to serve or serving, make your national service years a fruitful one. Do not think of it as a drag. Think of it as a stepping stone into not just becoming a man but also as a part of a learning process into the working life.
